CSI: Not

Hmmm, vacant pole, cut cable, what happened? You don't have to be some kind of crime scene investigator to figure out what occurred here. I passed some poor soul's locked bike on my way to finish a short errand and it was less than five minutes later that I returned by this scene. Cheap cable locks, folks--don't use 'em.

Now I know where I live is not New York, which is bike theft central, but I see these locks everywhere where I live! Don't people realize how easy they are to cut? Well, it does make me FEEL better when I lock my bike up properly as guess which one will most likely be stolen?

I know a few that had their bikes stolen due to cheap locks..

Oh well, at least I have some sense!

That is why my bike never leaves my sight.

That is a sad, sad picture.

Thanks for posting this information. Your blog is great! I share your enthusiasm for industrial bicycles. I just ordered a Worksman M2600 to add to my fleet. I have a Mundo that is fun but I am really looking forward to the M2600.

Ouch. Fortunately in rural Germany this isn't as much of an issue, although I do use a beefier lock than that.

Thanks for the comments all. Richard, I wish I could watch my bike all day, but that would negate some of the extremely practical uses of the bicycle (e.g. it's hard to do shopping with your head out the door spying the bike rack!)
It is a sad picture, and the replacement cost of the bike is surely more than the cost of a good lock...
